Ian Brown “About 30 years ago I, and many other members of the Manchester Wildlife Group, planted hundreds of trees on the perimeter of Hough End Playing fields and rescued Hough End Clough from a severe case of degradation, mostly caused by an overgrowth of Himalayan Balsam. The Clough was much improved and the trees have reached near maturity; to think that all this can be ruined because of the vanity of Manchester City Councillors is unbearable, especially considering all the of the help the Council gave to support our endeavours; and all for a sport which could take place almost anywhere.”
